Floors in real rooms

How to use this page when choosing your own floor.

A floor is easiest to judge in someone else's home. The projects here are real installations, supplied, fitted and finished by our own team and photographed in the rooms they live in. Between them they cover most of the decisions our customers face: wide plank against oak herringbone, pale against dark, new oak against reclaimed oak.

Read them as case studies. If a photograph looks like your house, a Victorian terrace, a lateral flat or a new extension, the floor and format underneath it are a working starting point. Three good places to start: the wide plank floor in Richmond shows how long boards behave across a whole floor; the reclaimed oak in Sevenoaks shows what salvaged timber really looks like laid; and the Victorian herringbone in Chelsea settles the period-pattern question better than any swatch.

Are these real LIGNORA projects?
Yes. Every photograph on this page is a real installation supplied and fitted by our own team. The recent fits are unstaged photos taken on site, some of them mid-installation.
Can I order a sample of a floor I see here?
Yes. Each photo links to a similar floor from our current range. Order free samples and we will post them anywhere in the UK, or send us the photo and we will match it for you.
Do you fit herringbone and chevron?
Yes. Most of the projects here are herringbone, laid by our own fitters, who have worked together for over 11 years. See oak herringbone flooring and chevron.
Do you restore existing floors as well?
Yes. We sand, repair and refinish original boards and parquet. See our sand and restore service and the Islington parquet restoration.
