Wide plank flooring — boards from 180mm to 400mm — is the quietest statement a floor can make. Fewer joints, longer runs, more grain. Engineered oak in wide format supplied and installed by LIGNORA across London and the South East, in standard and bespoke widths.
A narrow board floor draws attention to itself through repetition — the eye tracks the joints. A wide board floor shows you the wood. The grain, the figure, the character of the oak becomes visible in a way that is impossible at 90mm.
Wide plank also scales correctly to larger rooms. A 90mm board in a 60m² open-plan space has more joints than the room needs. A 190mm or 220mm board settles the room and lets the architecture read without competition from the floor.
Engineered construction makes wide plank practical in a way that solid wood is not. At 220mm+ in solid, seasonal movement creates unacceptable gapping in centrally heated homes. At the same width in engineered, with a multi-ply core, the floor remains stable year-round.
Our most popular format — the full Signature and Timeless Line range. Works in most room sizes, suits period and contemporary interiors equally. In stock, 2–3 week lead time.
In StockThe step up that is visible but not overwhelming. In the Design Collection and from our Prime Grade range. Particularly effective in extensions, open-plan ground floors, and rooms over 40m².
Available to OrderBoards at this width command the room. Appropriate for large reception rooms, entrance halls, and open-plan spaces where the floor is a primary design element. Available through our Bespoke Collection, 4–6 week lead time.
Bespoke OrderThe widest engineered oak we supply — produced to commission. At this scale, the floor becomes architecturally significant. Requires careful subfloor assessment and a detailed installation plan. Site visit required before quoting.
Commission OnlyWide boards amplify subfloor imperfections that narrow boards would disguise. We assess and prepare the subfloor before any wide plank installation — typically to a tolerance of no more than 3mm deviation over 1800mm. This is non-negotiable for boards over 180mm.
Wide engineered boards require a minimum of 72 hours acclimatisation in the property before installation — in the room they will be laid in, at the temperature the room will be maintained at. We schedule this into every installation. It is not optional at these widths.
All wide plank formats in our collection are underfloor heating compatible. For wide boards above UFH, we specify a flexible adhesive system that accommodates the thermal movement of the substrate. The adhesive specification matters as much as the board at this width.
We visit the property, assess the subfloor, advise on the right width for your room, and provide a clear itemised quote covering supply and installation. No surprises.
