Plain English first: These are the terms that govern our working relationship. We provide an itemised quote, you accept it, we carry out the work. We stand behind our installations with a seasonal warranty. We're a straightforward family business — if something goes wrong, we talk about it and sort it out.
The Agreement
These Terms of Service govern the relationship between LIGNORA ("we", "us", "our") and any person or company ("you", "the client") who engages our services or uses our website. By requesting a quote, accepting a quote, or using our website, you agree to be bound by these terms.
LIGNORA is a trading name of a family-run business operating across London and the South East, providing wood flooring supply and installation, floor restoration, and staircase and joinery services.
Our Services
We offer the following services:
- Wood floor supply and installation: engineered oak and solid hardwood, in all standard laying patterns
- Floor sanding and restoration: dustless sanding, gap filling, and on-site refinishing of existing wood floors
- Staircase and joinery: oak staircase treads, landing floors, risers, and bespoke joinery
- Home visits and quotations: free, no-obligation visits with our full sample range
All installation work is carried out by our own employed team. We do not subcontract any installation work to third parties.
Quotes & Payment
Quotations
All quotations are provided in writing following a home visit. Quotes are itemised and include material, subfloor preparation, installation, and finish as separate line items. Quotes are valid for 30 days from the date of issue unless otherwise stated.
A quote constitutes an offer to carry out the specified work at the stated price. The contract is formed when you accept the quote in writing (including by email) and pay the required deposit.
Pricing
All prices are quoted exclusive of VAT unless otherwise stated. VAT at the prevailing rate will be added to all invoices. We reserve the right to revise a quote if the scope of work changes materially from the original specification — for example, if subfloor conditions identified during installation require additional preparation not evident at the time of the home visit. We will notify you before proceeding with any additional work that would increase the quoted price.
Deposit and payment
A deposit of [X]% of the quoted project value is required to confirm the booking and secure your installation date. The balance is due on completion of the installation, unless otherwise agreed in writing. We reserve the right to charge interest on late payments in accordance with the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998.
Cancellation
If you cancel a confirmed booking more than 14 days before the scheduled installation date, we will refund your deposit in full. Cancellations within 14 days of the installation date may result in the deposit being retained to cover direct costs already incurred, including materials ordered to specification.
Installation & Your Responsibilities
Access and preparation
You are responsible for ensuring that:
- The property is accessible on the agreed installation date
- The rooms to be floored are clear of furniture and existing floor coverings (unless agreed otherwise)
- Heating is operating normally in the property (relevant for UFH commissioning)
- Other trades have completed their work in the areas to be floored prior to our attendance
We recommend that LIGNORA is the last trade to work in any floored area. We accept no responsibility for damage to the floor caused by subsequent trades or works.
Acclimatisation
We will deliver flooring materials to the property for acclimatisation prior to installation. You are responsible for ensuring the acclimatising materials are stored correctly in the property and that the property conditions (temperature and humidity) remain within normal occupied ranges during this period.
Subfloor
We will assess the subfloor condition during the home visit and include standard preparation in the quote. Where additional subfloor preparation is identified during installation that was not visible or testable at the time of the home visit (for example, a localised moisture problem revealed after lifting carpet), we will advise you before proceeding and agree any additional cost in writing.
Seasonal Installation Warranty
All LIGNORA installations are covered by our seasonal installation warranty. This warranty covers:
- Installation defects directly attributable to our workmanship
- The floor through its first full seasonal temperature and humidity cycle (typically 12 months from installation)
The warranty does not cover:
- Natural movement, gapping, or expansion caused by significant changes in humidity or temperature beyond normal occupied ranges
- Damage caused by water ingress, flooding, or persistent moisture
- Surface wear or damage caused by use, including scratches, dents, or staining
- Damage caused by subsequent trades or third parties after our installation is complete
- Floors where the aftercare guidance we provide at handover has not been followed
To make a warranty claim, contact us in writing within the warranty period with a description of the issue and photographs where possible. We will assess and respond within 5 working days.
Liability & Limitation
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.
Subject to the above, our total liability to you arising under or in connection with any contract for services shall not exceed the total value of that contract.
We are not liable for any indirect, special, or consequential loss arising from our services, including but not limited to loss of revenue, loss of profit, or loss of business.
If you are a consumer (contracting with us outside the course of a business), your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and other applicable legislation are not affected by these terms.
