Engineered oak, herringbone, parquet and restored original floors for North London homes, from Georgian squares in Islington to Edwardian terraces in Muswell Hill and family houses in Finchley and Barnet. Supplied, fitted and finished by our own team.
Short answer: LIGNORA supplies and fits wood flooring across North London, from Islington, Camden and Hackney to Haringey, Barnet and Enfield. Most homes here suit engineered oak, which stays stable over suspended timber floors, basements and underfloor heating; original pine boards and parquet are often worth restoring instead. Flats usually need an acoustic underlay to meet the lease. Free samples are posted first, and every floor is fitted by our own team. Updated October 2026 by the LIGNORA flooring team
North London was built in waves, and its floors still show it: Georgian terraces and squares in Islington, Canonbury and Barnsbury; Victorian villas in Highbury, Stoke Newington and Belsize Park; Edwardian streets and mansion flats in Muswell Hill and Crouch End; the Arts and Crafts houses of Hampstead Garden Suburb; and the inter-war semis of Finchley, Golders Green, Mill Hill and Edgware.
That history decides what goes down. Most ground floors are suspended timber, many period homes still have their original pine boards or parquet under the carpet, and a large share of North Londoners live in flats where the lease sets rules for hard floors. We look at the building first, then recommend the floor: new engineered oak, solid wood, or restoring what is already there.
We post free samples so you can see them in your own light, then measure up and test the subfloor before anything is ordered. Every quote is itemised in writing, and the floor is laid and finished by our own fitters, who have worked with us for over 11 years.
Most of what we lay in North London is engineered wood flooring, as wide plank or herringbone, alongside reclaimed oak for period rooms and sanding and restoration of original floors.

Georgian squares, early Victorian terraces and converted flats. Original pine boards are common upstairs; lower-ground floors are usually concrete.
Hampstead's village houses and red-brick mansion blocks, the stucco villas of Belsize Park and Primrose Hill, and a high share of listed homes and basements.
Edwardian terraces and mansion flats on the hills of Muswell Hill, Crouch End and Highgate, many with original boards and tiled hallways.
Georgian and Victorian terraces around Stoke Newington Church Street and the squares of De Beauvoir.
From the Arts and Crafts streets of Hampstead Garden Suburb to the inter-war semis of Finchley, Mill Hill and Edgware, and larger detached houses in Totteridge and Arkley.
Edwardian and inter-war houses in Winchmore Hill, and larger detached homes around Cockfosters and Hadley Wood.
Regency villas and mansion blocks in St John's Wood, and Victorian terraces around Queen's Park.
Further out, we also fit floors across Hertfordshire, from Potters Bar and Radlett to St Albans, and across Middlesex, from Stanmore and Pinner to Harrow. Elsewhere in London, see West London and South London.
Most Victorian and Edwardian ground floors sit on joists over a ventilated void. We check the joists and boards, keep the air bricks clear, and either restore the boards or lay new oak over them.
Many leases set a sound standard for hard floors. We check the requirement, specify an acoustic underlay or glue-down system to meet it, and supply the documents your freeholder or managing agent asks for.
Basement conversions and kitchen extensions usually mean concrete or screed with underfloor heating. Engineered oak is glued straight down once we have tested the screed for moisture.
Large parts of Islington, Hampstead, Highgate and the Suburb are protected. In a listed building, original floors can need consent to remove, so we establish what is original before proposing anything.
Under the carpet of many 1930s houses and mansion flats there is woodblock parquet that can be lifted, re-laid and sanded. See how we restored 1930s parquet in an Islington mansion flat, or read about parquet restoration and flooring for listed buildings.
