Common Questions

Do you deliver to Welwyn Garden City?

Yes. We deliver the full collection to Welwyn Garden City and across Hertfordshire by pallet, with free samples posted first. Want it fitted too? Tell us about your project and we'll talk you through the options. We respond to every enquiry within one working day.

Is the floor compatible with underfloor heating?

Warm floors are well within reach in Welwyn Garden City: engineered oak and underfloor heating work together cleanly. Our recommended spec over underfloor heating is 14–18mm engineered oak. Solid wood is the one thing we rule out, and we confirm every spec in writing before you order.

Can I use my own fitter?

Yes. We'll recommend the right adhesive, underlay and trims for your subfloor, and send the technical sheets your fitter needs before the floor arrives.

Welwyn Garden City homes and their floors

Welwyn Garden City was founded by Ebenezer Howard in 1920, so its centre is lined with neo-Georgian houses on tree-lined roads around Parkway and the Campus, with post-war neighbourhoods such as Panshanger and newer developments around the edges.

Inter-war houses usually have suspended timber floors at the front and later extensions on concrete. Owners often choose oak that suits the town's neo-Georgian architecture: herringbone halls, wide boards and natural tones. Post-war homes have concrete floors suited to glued or floated engineered oak.

Wood floor installation in Welwyn Garden City

You can order supply only and use your own fitter in Welwyn Garden City, or tell us about your project if you would like it fitted. Either way, this is how a wood floor should go down, and we give your fitter full technical guidance.

Survey and moisture checkMeasure every room and moisture-test the subfloor before ordering. A screed or slab that is too damp needs damp proofing first.
Subfloor preparationUneven subfloors should be levelled first. Our boards are pre-acclimatised, and two to three days in the room before fitting is usually enough.
The right fitting methodFull glue-down suits screed and underfloor heating, floating installation suits some subfloors with the right underlay, and secret nailing suits timber joists. Parquet floor installation should always be glue-down.
Skirting, trims and thresholdsFinish with matching skirting boards, thresholds, trims and stair nosings. We can supply these with your floor.
Specification in writingEvery engineered board we supply is suitable for underfloor heating, and we confirm the adhesive and underlay for your subfloor in writing.

Tell us about your project and we'll advise on the right board, adhesive and underlay for your home in Welwyn Garden City.
