Distressed Black is an engineered European oak plank floor, cut at 15mm × 220mm × 2200mm and graded antique. In tone it reads as a deep, dramatic oak that grounds a room with real presence. The distressed black oiled finish sets its character underfoot. Suitable for underfloor heating, it is laid board by board by our own installation team across London and the South East.
The 220mm plank format is the quiet decision here — it opens smaller rooms and settles larger ones. Antique grading leans into the timber's history — knots, shakes and colour play that make the floor read as if it has been down for decades.
The finish, and living with it A floor is its finish as much as its tone: here the distressed black oiled treatment sets how Distressed Black handles daily life. An oiled surface feeds the timber rather than coating it, so the grain stays open to the touch; maintenance is an occasional re-oil in the areas that work hardest.
Engineered construction keeps the boards stable through central heating and seasonal swings, and the wear layer is thick enough to be re-finished when, years from now, it has earned it.
Rooms it suits, and the next step We fit it most often through living spaces, kitchens and hallways — the rooms that have to look good under real use. See more on our wide plank flooring in London page. It belongs to the Signature Collection. If you are shortlisting, put Untamed Grain Oak and Golden Oak beside it for comparison.
Before anything is ordered, see it at home — a free sample of Distressed Black is the reliable test.
