Cragside Frost 15.5mm Engineered Douglas Fir Plank, 260mm wide

Cragside Frost is the palest floor we supply in any species. Four processes take Douglas fir almost to white, holding a faint warm cast so the room never goes cold or chalky, and the grain survives as a fine pink-brown drawing across the surface rather than a strong stripe.

Supplied in 260mm boards at random lengths up to three metres, with at least 80% of every pack between 1.7m and 3.0m. Manufactured in the United Kingdom rather than imported, and rated for underfloor heating. You can have this floor fitted by our own team or delivered supply-only anywhere in the UK.

This is a specifier’s floor. In a Scandinavian-leaning interior, or anywhere the walls and joinery are doing the work, it gives you a floor that behaves like a light surface and still has real timber character underneath. It also does what pale floors do best in London: it makes a north-facing room feel like a different room.

Styling it Cragside Frost is made for white-on-white and pale-stone schemes, so warmth has to come from texture: wool, linen, cane, oak and plaster. Choose warm whites rather than blue-whites for the walls, and light concrete, limestone or pale terrazzo for a kitchen. A matching fir stair or window seat cut from the same batch makes the whole space read as one material.

The board itself Two-layer engineered construction: a 3.7mm Douglas fir wear layer over 12mm hardwood plywood, 15.5mm in total, tongue and groove on four sides with a bevelled long edge and square ends. A heavier 20.5mm build with a 5.7mm wear layer can be ordered where screed has already set the floor height, and 200mm widths are available to order alongside the standard 260mm.

Living with it Pale floors show grit rather than wear, so the routine is simple — mats at every external door, felt pads under everything, vacuum often, damp mop with a pH-neutral wood cleaner and nothing stronger. Douglas fir is a softwood and will take dents that oak would shrug off — we say this before every fir order, not after it.

Matching the rest of the house Because the boards are made in Britain, matching herringbone, chevron and bespoke stair treads can be cut from the same batch, so the staircase and the floor are the same floor.
