The bedroom is where a wood floor can be at its most beautiful — no moisture demands, no heavy traffic, no specification compromises. Just the right grain, the right tone, and the right pattern for a room you begin and end every day in. LIGNORA installs bedroom wood floors across London and the South East.
The most requested pattern in principal bedrooms. Herringbone adds richness and movement to a floor without overwhelming the space — it reads as considered rather than decorative, and works with everything from fitted wardrobes to freestanding furniture. In a large master bedroom, it anchors the room in a way that straight-lay boards cannot.
Herringbone Flooring London →In larger bedrooms — particularly those above 16 sqm — wide plank at 190mm or 220mm creates a calm, generous floor that suits the pace of a bedroom. Fewer boards, more grain, more quiet. Works exceptionally well in Scandinavian and contemporary interiors, or in rooms where the floor is meant to recede rather than lead.
Wide Plank Flooring →Less common in bedrooms than herringbone, but particularly beautiful in period properties and rooms with high ceilings. Chevron has a more formal, symmetrical rhythm — its boards meet at a point rather than staggering — and it suits rooms where the floor is intended as a feature in its own right. Often chosen for principal bedrooms in Georgian and Victorian properties.
Chevron Flooring London →Carpet has dominated UK bedrooms for decades — and for the wrong reasons. The honest argument for wood flooring in a bedroom isn't about aesthetics alone, though the difference is significant.
Allergens. Carpet retains dust mites, pet dander, and particulate in its fibres. For anyone with asthma, hay fever, or sensitivity to dust, a wood floor in the bedroom — where you spend eight hours with your face near the floor — makes a material difference to air quality.
Longevity. A quality engineered oak floor in a bedroom will outlast multiple carpet replacements. The room has lower traffic than any other in the house — the floor simply does not wear at the rate a living room or hallway would.
Value. Wood flooring adds perceived and actual value to a property in a way carpet does not. When photographed for sale or let, a wood bedroom floor reads as a premium finish and positions the property above carpet-floored equivalents.
Acoustic underlay. In apartments and upper floors, acoustic performance matters. We specify a quality acoustic underlay beneath floating installations, and use adhesive methods where acoustic requirements are specified by a freeholder or architect.
Finish choice. In bedrooms, hardwax oil is our most common recommendation. It's warm to the touch, forgiving under bare feet, and easy to maintain. Lacquer is a valid choice for those who prefer no annual maintenance — the trade-off is a slightly harder surface underfoot.
Tone and light. Bedrooms receive different light to reception rooms — often softer and more directional. We bring samples to the room at survey stage and assess the tone in natural and artificial light before finalising the product selection.
Free samples visit included with every surveyWe bring relevant samples from our collection to the room. Bedroom light is specific — the tone of a floor can read very differently here than in a showroom. We assess the samples against your existing décor, cabinetry, and natural light before recommending a product.
We check the subfloor for level, moisture content, and condition. Bedroom subfloors in older London properties often have slight irregularities — we identify and resolve these at survey stage rather than on installation day. A level, dry subfloor is non-negotiable for a floor that performs long-term.
For bedrooms above ground floor — particularly in flats and apartments — we confirm the acoustic requirement with you. Leasehold properties sometimes specify a minimum Impact Sound Rating. We specify the correct underlay system and can provide documentation if required by a freeholder or managing agent.
After the visit, you receive an itemised written quote covering product, underlay, adhesive where applicable, installation, and any threshold or door trimming required. No hidden costs, no day-rate surprises. The price agreed is the price on invoice.
See our oak in the actual light of your room before committing to anything. One visit covers samples, subfloor check, acoustic assessment, and a fixed written quote.
